There are several different styles to choose from when picking out your design.
Let's go over some of the more common styles around!
The colonial - This is one of the most efficient uses of space when building. Usually a very large house with lots of growing room. The layout with a colonial is a full two floors The ground floor generally consists of kitchen, living room, dinning room, a half bath and an office or den. Upstairs is typically the sleeping area. One of the main advantages of having a colonial is having the living space separated from the sleeping space.
A Colonial is basically a symmetrical dwelling with the door in the center and windows on each side. The house design is very economical for new construction. Dormers can be added into the design to add a nice look to the house.
The Cape - New England's own house! The cape cod house originated in the 17th century, it's basic structure was a story and a half with a steep roof with the chimney in the middle. Designed to be efficient but very plain.
The cape has come a long way from where it started. With a well built dormer or two a cape gains an amazing amount of space, and with the roof line the attic is spacious enough to add a bedroom or office area. Also there are options to move the chimney to an outside wall if it is more fitting.
The Ranch - A Ranch house is typically a one story house. It's design is longer then it is wide, with low pitched roof. The house is usually divided into living space in one wing and bedroom space in another. The entryway can be protected with a portico or a recessed porch. Large windows are typical. A Ranch style home is well suited to have a large attached garage!
The Raised Ranch - The Raised Ranch is basically a ranch with a full second story. It has a very symmetrical look with large windows. Typically a sliding glass door or French doors leading to a deck out the back are added.
The Contemporary Home - A Contemporary home is a way for the homeowner along with their contractor to be creative. It allows you to pick and choose what features you like and combine the things that work for you and your family! Be Creative with your ideas and lets see what we can do together!
